Description

• The Green Terror (Andinoacara rivulatus) is a vibrant freshwater fish popular in the aquarium trade, native to South American rivers in Peru and Ecuador. It belongs to the Cichlidae family and is known for its striking appearance and territorial behavior.

  Description:

  • Appearance:
    • Males are particularly colorful, displaying vivid green to turquoise scales with metallic sheen. They develop a prominent nuchal hump on their heads as they mature.
    • Females are less vibrant, often with more subdued greenish or yellowish tones.
    • Both have orange to red-edged fins, with males showing more intense coloration.
    • Size: Males can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm), while females are slightly smaller.
  • Behavior:
    • Highly territorial and aggressive, especially during breeding. They are best kept with similarly sized, robust fish.
    • Intelligent and interactive, often recognizing their owners.
  • Habitat:
    • Prefers warm, slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.5–8.0, temperature 72–80°F or 22–27°C).
    • Thrives in spacious tanks (minimum 50 gallons for a single fish, larger for pairs or community setups) with hiding spots, rocks, and driftwood.
  • Diet: Omnivorous, eating high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen or live foods (like brine shrimp or bloodworms), and occasional vegetables.
  • Care Level: Moderate to advanced due to their size, aggression, and need for stable water conditions.
  • Lifespan: 7–10 years with proper care.
